WPIAL swimming: Cornell’s Pickett, Chamberlain bring home medals on Day 1

Two Cornell High School swimmers medaled at the WPIAL Swimming Championships, with Noah Pickett finishing second in the 100 butterfly and Mimi Chamberlain fifth in the 200 individual medley. Other notable performances came from swimmers from Carlynton and Moon.

West Hills swimmers set to compete this week at WPIAL Championships

More than two dozen competitors will represent the West Hills at the WPIAL Swimming Championships Thursday and Friday, Feb. 26-27, at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool. Cornell, Carlynton, Moon and Montour will be represented, with Carlynton Evey Fahnestock and Cornell's Mimi Chamberlain and Noah Pickett looking to medal again.

High school basketball: Cornell falls to Summit Academy in season finale

In their final boys basketball game of the season Saturday, the Cornell Raiders lost 74-45 to Summit Academy, despite an early lead. Summit dominated the second quarter, scoring 22 points. Eduardo Benitez led Cornell with 18 points. Cornell ended the season with a record of 4-16.

High school roundup: Sto-Rox boys clinch playoff spot; OLSH’s Johnson hits 1,000th career point mark

LJ Washington led Sto-Rox to a 72-35 victory over McGuffey, securing a WPIAL playoff spot for the Vikings. In other games, Keystone Oaks defeated Bishop Canevin 49-43, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart beat Rochester 78-30, and Moon Area topped West Allegheny 68-38,. OLSH's Jake Johnson scored his 1,000th career point.

High schools: Moon boys blitz Mars; Montour, OLSH, Bishop Canevin win; OLSH girls down Sto-Rox

Moon Area defeated Mars, 76-38, Friday night boys basketball action,. Montour rallied to beat West Allegheny 50-44. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart topped Shenango 57-19, while Bishop Canevin bested Carlynton 53-41. Washington edged Sto-Rox 62-58, and Avella overcame Cornell 63-49. In girls play, OLSH downed Sto-Rox and Montour fell to West Allegheny.

High school basketball: OLSH, Moon boys roll to easy wins; Moon girls fall to South Fayette

Jake Johnson and Tiernan McCullough led Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 78-31 win over Western Beaver. Moon Area defeated Blackhawk 70-36, while Aquinas Academy triumphed over Cornell 95-70, despite Eduardo Benitez's 40 points.

Boys basketball: Moon hands Chartiers Valley first section loss; Montour, OLSH, Bishop Canevin win

Moon Area defeated defending champion Chartiers Valley, 52-49, in WPIAL Class 5A boys basketball play thanks to Jackson Bauman's late 3-pointer. This marked Chartiers Valley's first section loss, while Moon improved to 13-3 overall. Other West Hills winners were Montour, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Cornell and Bishop Canevin.
