Experience Pittsburgh’s new airport terminal: Gala with Goldblum & PSO

A gala scheduled for next month to show off Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal will feature a pair of home-grown headliners.

Native son Jeff Goldblum, whose film, television and theater career has spanned six decades, will perform at the Oct. 3 event along with the Grammy Award-winning Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Airport officials said the opening of the new $1.7 billion terminal, scheduled for later this fall, is a chance to showcase its best assets on a global stage across all business sectors.

“From global Fortune 500 companies to tech start-ups, this region is a business and arts powerhouse, and the new terminal is the front door to that story,” airport CEO Christina Cassotis said. “We’re proud to have both the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Jeff Goldblum perform at the gala as part of our opening series of events.”

Goldblum, originally from West Homestead, said he was “thrilled and delighted” to take part in the event in his hometown.

“What a jazzy dream come true – there’s no place like home!” Goldblum said.

The first Public Trial on Sept. 20 – where members of the public will test the new terminal’s systems and processes — kickstarts the events, followed by the gala two weeks later for partners and organizations involved in building the project.

The Oct. 11 Community Open House is next, where more than 10,000 members of the public will be given the opportunity to explore the new terminal.

Registration for the Community Open House is still available and can be found here.

Goldblum, who most recently starred in “Wicked” and its upcoming sequel, will perform with both the PSO and his own Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. Goldblum graduated from the former West Mifflin North High School in 1970 and 30 years ago launched the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra — named for a family friend who played bridge with his parents while growing up in the region.

Since then, Goldblum and his band have performed for audiences throughout the United States and all over the world playing contemporary arrangements of classic jazz and American Songbook standards.

Airport officials say that the airport’s new, state-of-the-art terminal will improve the passenger experience – from a streamlined security checkpoint to a shorter baggage wait time to a revamped concessions program and more parking.
