High school roundup: Moon girls soccer wins; local teams compete at cross country meets

The Moon Area Tigers used goals from three different players Saturday to post a 3-1 victory over Thomas Jefferson in a nonsection girls soccer match at Thomas Jefferson.

Anna Palm, Kendall Dydek and Ally D’Alesio each contributed one goal for the Tigers, who improved to 8-1-0 overall on the season. Moon is unbeaten in Class 3A Section 2 at 6-0-0.

Rylie LaFayette, Maddie Shaver and Quinn Arnold each set up one of the Tigers’ goals.


CROSS COUNTRY

Carlynton at Ben Bloser Bulldog Invitational

Carlynton junior Ethan Moldovan won the Class A boys race with a time of 16 minutes, 53 seconds, while fellow junior Emery DelRosario wound u 52nd with a season-best time of 22:36.

For the girls, sophomore Maria Leithhauser placed 17th in the Class A race with a time of 22:37.


PIAA Foundation Meet

Moon brought five girls to the meet in Hershey, and Elise Ashcroft finished 14th in the AAA Gold Division race with a time of 20:02.

Rachel Stepp, Alexis Shuler, Maddie Puthoff and Callie Speerhas helped the team secure a top-20 finish.

Moon’s boys team finished 28th in the same division, competing on the state championship meet course. Competing for the boys were Sam Herrera, Ryan Slawuta, EJ Hankinson and Blake Repko.

A portion of Moon’s team competed at a meet in Sharpsville, and Gabrielle Spitznagel led the girls contingent along with Alexa Hosey. The team finished ninth in the Varsity division.

On the boys side, Casey Krauza led the way, followed by Nahum Maeregu, and the Tigers finished 17th.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart’s Julles Goshen wound up eighth in the girls A portion of the PIAA Foundation Meet in Hershey with a time of 20:47 while Hannah Hayes was 23rd and Eva Crofford 29th.

Brayden Douglass was the Chargers’ top finisher in the boys A meet at 29th.
