High school roundup: OLSH lights up the scoreboard in boys soccer win over Bishop Canevin

Eight different players got into the scoring act as Our Lady of the Sacred Heart’s boys soccer team rolled to a 10-0 victory over Bishop Canevin Thursday in a WPIAL Class 1A Section 3 match at Youthtowne.

Owen Minzer and Brady Hernandez each scored two goals for OLSH, which improved to 5-0 overall in its Section 3 opener.

Isaac Tarbuk, Jake Huet, Hunter Smith, Chad Minton, Peter Zink and Colby Lane each scored one goal for the winners.

Pat Altmar, Ethan Engle and Jack Dewhirst combined on the shutout for the Chargers.


Moon Area 1, West Allegheny 0

Hayden Dunn scored the only goal of the match, but that was all the Tigers needed to turn away the Indians in a Class 3A Section 2 matchup at Tiger Stadium.

Will Guarino notched the shutout in goal for Moon, which improved to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in section play.


Carlynton 3, Brentwood 3

Xavier O’Leary scored two of the Cougars goals as they wound up deadlocked with the Spartans in a Class 1A Section 3 match at Carlynton.

Ali Al Masri contributed the remaining goal for the Cougars.


Ambridge 3, Montour 1

The visiting Bridgers posted a Class 3A Section 4 victory over the Spartans Thursday at Thomas J. Birko Memorial Stadium. No other details were available.


BOYS GOLF

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 209, Keystone Oaks 226

Jonah Schollaert captured medalist honors again with an even-par score of 35 as the Chargers topped the Eagles in a Class 2A Section 4 match played Wednesday at Mt. Lebanon Golf Club.

OLSH improved to 7-1 in section play with the victory going into Monday’s match against Fort Cherry at Moon Golf Club.

Ryan DeNinno shot a 38 for the Chargers while Matthew Prince (42), Katie Suess (46) and Nolan Meyer (48) rounded out the scoring. Jeremy Wagner was Keystone Oaks’ top golfer with a round of 41.


GIRLS SOCCER

Bishop Canevin 2, South Allegheny 1

Isabella Sysak and Cali Evans each netted one goal to help lead the Crusaders past the Gladiators in a Class 1A Section 3 match played Wednesday night.

Evans assisted on Sysak’s goal for the Crusaders and Evans scored her goal unassisted.

Jazlyn Farnan tallied South Allegheny’s lone goal.


GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Neighborhood Academy 3, Cornell 0

The Class 2A Bulldogs posted a sweep, but the Class 1A Raiders made them work for it in a non-section match. Neighborhood Academy won by game scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 26-24. No individual details were available.


Montour 3, South Fayette 2

The Spartans had to battle but eventually came out on top in the Class 3A Section 1 matchup on the Hilltop, winning by scores of 19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-27 and 15-9.

Annett Christian finished with 10 kills, six blocks and one ace while Sloane Cotten had nine kills, two blocks, six digs and one ace. Others contributing to the Spartans’ win were Alina Vlasch (seven kills), Ary Camardese (three kills, one block), Catherine Schmidt (two aces, 12 assists, two digs), Delaney Barto (two aces, one kill, 15 digs), Delaney Dzorenda (five kills, two blocks, one ace), Hailey Staub (three aces, 10 digs) and Zoe Woessner (four aces, 23 assists).


Serra Catholic 3, Bishop Canevin 0

Taleah Carroll led the Crusaders with nine kills and two blocks, but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles downed the Crusaders in a Class 1A Section 5 matchup by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-17.

Samantha Bittner added five kills and 11 digs for Bishop Canevin while Ava Washington had 14 assists, eight digs and two aces, Anna Sawyer contributed 11 digs and Lia Pilarski had three aces.


Oakland Catholic 3, Moon Area 0

The Eagles posted a sweep in a Class 3A Section 1 match with the Tigers, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 26-24.

Senior Setter Elina Antoniades led Moon with 18 assists, two kills, three blocks and one ace. Senior Libero Danica Bacu had another strong night defensively with 13 digs and added an ace.

Senior outside hitters Juls Corado, who finished with five kills and four digs, and Reese Keslar, who contributed eight kills and an ace, also had strong showings for the Tigers.
