Buoyed by solid performances from Braiden Sudor and Henry Barbisch, the Carlynton Cougars placed 21st Saturday among 34 teams competing at the Burgettstown Invitational wrestling tournament.
Sudor wound up fourth at 215 pounds and Barbisch placed fifth at 285. Sudor posted an 11-0 major decision over Lucian Williams of South Side Beaver in the consolation semifinals but then dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to Justin Beck of Avonworth in the battle for third place.
Barbisch was pinned by Philup Rearick of Armstrong in the consolation semifinals before bouncing back to pin Landon Heath of Jefferson Morgan in 1 minute, 46 seconds of their fifth-place match.
In a dual meet held Jan. 8, the Cougars came up short in a 39-34 loss to Keystone Oaks.
Three Carlynton wrestlers posted victories in their individual contested matches – Leland Ferris won by pin at 139 pounds, Aaryn Edwards prevailed by technical fall at 160 and Barbisch won by technical fall at 285.
Three other Cougar wrestlers won by forfeit – Jeremy Lindsay at 172, Dom Cisnero Torres at 189 and Sudor at 215.
Moon 52, Montour 12
In a dual meet held Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Tigers whipped the Spartans at Montour.
Posting victories for Moon by pin were Bryce Thomas at 114 pounds, Landon Lower at 121, Nathan LaFayette at 127 and Cael Yanek at 133.
Winning by major decision were Elijah Thomas at 145 and Michael Olszewski at 172. At 160, Liam Costa edged Montour’s Rook Smith, 5-4.
Moon’s Karston Kirchner won by technical fall at 107 and Thaddeus Novak (189) and Khalil Razipor (215) won by forfeit.
Posting victories for Montour were Thomas Cunningham, who won by decision at 152, Jacob Helbedl, who won by pin at 285, and Jacob Chacon, who won by decision at 139.
