High school girls: Greensburg Central Catholic downs OLSH in WPIAL semifinals

Erica Gribble and Avery Jones combined for 30 points to spark Greensburg Central Catholic to a 41-18 victory over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Saturday in the semifinals of the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Basketball Tournament at Peters Township High School.

The victory vaults the Centurions into the tournament finals at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Petersen Events Center.

OLSH, which fell to 21-3, will play Ellwood City for third place at a time and location to be determined. Ellwood City lost to Shady Side Academy, 69-33, in Saturday’s other semifinal.

The Chargers trailed 8-6 after one quarter but the Centurions outscored them 18-5 in the second quarter to take a 26-11 lead at halftime. OLSH was able to hold Greensburg Central Catholic to four points in the third quarter, but the Chargers were able to score only two points.

The Centurions put the game away by outscoring OLSH 11-5 in the fourth quarter.

Claudia Ierullo scored seven points to lead the Chargers.

Gribble finished with 16 points and Jones added 14 for Greensburg Central Catholic, which also got 10 points from Jayla Peterson.
