Robert Morris football looks to break losing streak in NYC

The Robert Morris Colonials will look to snap a two-game losing streak in New York City Saturday in a Northeast Conference football game against the Long Island University Sharks.

Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The Colonials are coming off a 24-12 loss to Central Connecticut State, which currently sits in first place in the Northeast Conference.

In the game against CCSU, Robert Morris once again was without injured starting quarterback Zach Tanner.  Freshman Cooper Panteck started his second game and went 16 for 30 for 223 yards and two interceptions.

Montour product Jake Wolfe also saw action in the second half, completing 9 of 12 pass attempts for 133 yards and a touchdown in RMU’s comeback bid. Chaz Middleton led the Colonials in the game with nine receptions for 186 yards and a touchdown.

The Colonials’ defense has tightened over the past several games to an average of 20 points per game, after allowing an average of 50 points in the first two games of the season.

Robert Morris is 1-5 for the season and 0-1 in the Northeast Conference.  Long Island University is also 1-5 this season and 0-2 in conference play. LIU’s only win of the year was an impressive 28-23 victory over Eastern Michigan, an FBS opponent from the Mid-American Conference.

The Sharks have incurred losses to the Florida Gators, Rhode Island, Sacred Heart, Stonehill and Mercyhurst. Long Island has used a combination of quarterbacks this season, including redshirt junior Ethan Greenwood, a preseason Walter Payton Watch List candidate and redshirt sophomore Chris Howell.
