Western Beaver pounds Carlynton, 41-6, in WPIAL playoff opener
Jaivin Peel threw for five touchdowns to help Western Beaver cruise past Carlynton in the opening round of the WPIAL Class 2A football playoffs Saturday afternoon. The loss ends the season for Carlynton, which made the playoffs for the first time in more than two decades.
Playoff preview: Montour hosts Mars; five other West Hills schools in action
After losing its regular-season finale a week ago, the Montour Spartans open WPIAL playoff action Friday night against Mars. Five other West Hills area schools will begin chasing their playoff dreams this weekend as well.
Cross Country: OLSH, Carlynton ladies advance to PIAA
Carlynton's Bridget McNamara became her school's first individual champion Thursday at the WPIAL girls cross country Class A championships at White Oak Park in McKeesport, and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart took home the team gold. Both OLSH and Carlynton will advance as a team to the PIAA state meet Nov. 2 in Hershey.
