Nine West Hills golfers qualified for the WPIAL championships by excelling in sectional tournaments. Notably, Moon Area's Koch, Bonidie, Fazio and Brown, along with Montour's Pigoni, Martinec, Altenhof and OLSH's Schollaert and Prince, advanced successfully.
Irelynn Hobbs scored three goals to lead Montour to a 5-0 win over Trinity in a girls soccer game Monday, improving the Spartans' record to 6-1. Other scores included Sewickley Academy's 7-1 victory against Carlynton and Aquinas Academy's 7-0 win over Bishop Canevin.
Bishop Canevin’s Justin Melvin set a single-game record with four touchdown receptions during a 46-28 victory against Laurel. Myontae Mott contributed two rushing touchdowns, while Laurel’s Luca Santini scored twice and Tyler Fuchs added a blocked punt touchdown.
Moon Area secured a 21-3 victory over West Allegheny after a late third-quarter surge, highlighted by a 14-point streak. Montour rolled to an easy victory over Knoch, but Cornell needed some last-second heroics to beat Burgettstown.
Bishop Canevin defeated Carlynton 2-1 in a thrilling boys soccer match, with Makhi Craig scoring the decisive goal late in the game. Meanwhile, Moon Area edged Montour, 2-1; Our Lady of the Sacred Heart dominated Serra Catholic 8-0; and Carlynton's girls soccer team won 4-2 over Aquinas Academy.
Bishop Canevin seeks its second win against unbeaten Laurel, which boasts an unbeaten 3-0 record, Saturday night. In Friday night action, Moon faces West Allegheny, Montour visits Knoch, Burgettstown travels to Cornell, OLSH hosts South Allegheny, Carlynton treks to Apollo-Ridge and Sto-Rox entertains Keystone Oaks.
Raven Karlik from Montour secured her spot in the WPIAL Class 3A girls singles tennis tournament after a strong performance in the Section 2 tournament. Meanwhile, Moon Area’s girls soccer team achieved a resounding 6-0 victory over Trinity, showcasing impressive individual performances.
