I am very concerned about corruption in our government. So, I’m working hard to root it out. Our government should be delivering for all of us — the good people of Western Pennsylvania and this great country.
Did you know that it’s perfectly legal for members of Congress to trade stocks while in office – even if they learn sensitive information in Congress? I think it’s outrageous and should be illegal. As part of our jobs, members of Congress have access to sensitive insider information that can have significant impacts on markets and stock valuations.
We’re elected to serve the interests of the people, and nobody should line their own pockets by abusing power to play the stock market.
That’s why I’m proud to co-sponsor bipartisan legislation to ban Congressional stock trading — the Transparent Representation Upholding Service and Trust (TRUST) in Congress Act.
This legislation would effectively ban members of Congress, their spouses and dependent children from trading individual stocks.
Public service is about the common good, not abusing public office for private gain. Banning congressional stock trading is a commonsense move Congress should make that would help build faith in government.
I will keep fighting to pass this legislation and other anti-corruption policies — like getting corporate money and influence out of politics — so that our government can get back to the important work of restoring the American Dream.
