I recently voted to lower health care costs by extending Affordable Care Act (ACA) health care tax credits. The bill passed the U.S. House with votes from both Democrats and Republicans.
It’s a big win in the fight to lower health care costs. But the fight isn’t won yet — the Senate needs to take this bill up ASAP.
Western Pennsylvanians are already staring down budget-crushing increases in their health insurance premiums. We’re talking an average monthly increase of $125 in Allegheny County. The typical 60-year-old couple earning about $85,000 a year is expected to see annual premiums rise 274%, or $19,279.
Facing that kind of price hike, it’s no surprise that people are deciding to drop their health care coverage and risk bankruptcy from an unlucky illness or a hospital stay.
We did our job in the House to stop this disaster. Now it’s up to the Senate — and the president — to do their jobs and stop folks from getting pummeled by health care costs.
As always: if I can help you or your family with any issues you’re having with a federal government agency, please let me know. I’ve got district offices in Carnegie, Center Township and Penn Hills, and my team stands ready to help. Give us a call at (412) 344-5583.
