High school roundup: Carlynton girls roll to soccer win; OLSH girls fall to Freedom

Riley Mauro and Mary Crawford each netted three goals as Carlynton rolled to a girls soccer victory over South Allegheny Wednesday.

Bella D’Antonio contributed two goals for the winners.

Gigi Choate set up three of the Cougars’ eight goals while Mauro, D’Antonio and Mariah Freeman each contributed one assist.


Freedom Area 4, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 2

Freedom led 1-0 at halftime and doubled that lead to 2-0 with 29 minutes, 46 seconds to play in the second half when a long looping pass got behind the OLSH defense and a Bulldog forward converted.

Less than three minutes later, the Chargers trimmed the margin to 2-1, but the Bulldogs restored their two-goal lead with 24:21 remaining in the match. Freedom extended that lead to 4-1 before OLSH broke through for its final goal of the match, leaving the final score 4-2.


Seton LaSalle 8, Bishop Canevin 0

No individual scoring details were available as the Crusaders fell to the Rebels.


BOYS GOLF

Avonworth 188, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 217

Luke Ermlich of Avonworth notched medalist honors with a 1-under-par 35, leading the Antelopes past the Chargers in a Class 2A Section 4 match at Moon Golf Club.

Avonworth improved to 5-0 in section play while OLSH fell to 5-1.

Katie Suess of OLSH posted her first career hole-in-one on the 107-yard No. 7 hole. She used a 9-iron to turn the trick.


South Fayette 187, Moon Area 202

Matthew Koch and Chris Brown each carded scores of 38 to lead the Tigers, but they were no match for the Lions Wednesday.

Ian Bonidie and Cooper Fazio each shot 41 for Moon while Eric Hartman finished with a 44.


GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Moon Area 3, Elizabeth Forward 0

Senior setter Elina Antoniades posted six kills and 18 assists to spark the Tigers to a win.

Moon libero Danica Bacu contributed 10 digs and two aces while senior middle Abbie Warnagiris had a strong night at the net with six kills and two blocks.


GIRLS TENNIS

North Allegheny 5, Moon Area 0

Moon Area failed to win a game in falling to the “other” Tigers, 5-0.
