Kendall Dydek struck for three goals and Riley LaFayette added a pair as Moon Area rolled to an 8-0 victory over host Trinity Monday in a WPIAL Class 3A Section 2 girls soccer match.
The Tigers extended their season-long section winning streak to 11 games, as they hold an 11-0-0 mark. Moon is 13-1-0 overall.
The Tigers, who led 2-0 at halftime, also got single goals from Emma Jones, Quinn Arnold and Junie Shaver.
Arnold and Shaver each assisted on two of Moon’s eight goals while Isabella Taylor, Adrianna D’Alesio and LaFayette each had one assist.
Anslie Romasco and Samantha D’Alesio combined on the shutout in goal for the Tigers.
Montour 2, West Allegheny 1
Irelynn Hobbs tallied both goals for the Spartans, with both of them coming in the first half, and that proved to be enough to claim a win over the Indians in a Class 3A Section 2 match.
Ella Smith scored the lone goal for West Allegheny.
Montour improved to 10-2 overall and 9-1 in the section with the win.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 2, Riverside 1
The visiting Chargers spotted the Panthers a 1-0 lead in early portion of the first half, but OLSH came back with two first-half goals to claim the Class 1A Section 1 victory.
The Chargers answered shortly after Riverside scored when Jaida Wynkoop finished a cross from Olivia Chimenti.
Sydney Trippe then added what proved to be the winning goal shortly before halftime for OLSH, which improved to 6-6-1 overall and 6-3-1 in Class 1A Section 1 action. Riverside suffered its first section loss of the season and fell to 7-1-1 in the section.
Aquinas Academy 2, Carlynton 0
The Crusaders blanked the Cougars in a Class 1A Section 3 match. No other details were available.
BOYS GOLF
WPIAL Team Championships
Neither of the two West Hills schools that competed in Monday’s opening round of the WPIAL Class 2A tournament will move on to the final round.
Bishop Canevin finished ninth among 11 teams in its bracket with a total score of 475, two strokes ahead of 10th-place finisher Our Lady of Sacred Heart, which wound up at 477.
Monday’s event was played at Hickory Heights Golf Club in Bridgeville.
OLSH’s Jonah Schollaert, the individual Class 2A champion, led his team with a 77, followed by Ryan DeNinno at 95, Matthew Prince at 96, Nolan Meyer at 98 and Katie Suess at 111.
Advancing from that bracket were Shady Side Academy 393, Avonworth 397 and Beaver 401.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Carlynton 3, Bishop Canevin 1
The Cougars topped the Crusaders in a nonsection matchup, winning by set scores of 25-23, 27-25, 17-25, 25-17. No other details were available.
Cornell 3, Sto-Rox 0
The Raiders swept the Vikings, winning by set scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-7 in a nonsection match. No other details were available.
