High school roundup: OLSH, Bishop Canevin, Montour post boys soccer wins

Brady Hernandez and Owen Minzer each scored a pair of goals to lift Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 6-0 victory over Brentwood Tuesday in a WPIAL Class 1A Section 3 boys soccer match at Brentwood.

Hunter Smith and Isaac Tarbuk each scored one goal for the Chargers.

OLSH built a 4-0 lead in the first half as Hernandez netted both of his goals and Smith and Tarbuk each chipped in with one.

Minzer scored both of his goals in the second half for OLSH, which improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in section play.


Bishop Canevin 2, Serra Catholic 1

The Crusaders trailed 1-0 at halftime but Li Zhonghan’s goal tied it up and Tyler Thamsarorat put in the game-winner as Bishop Canevin prevailed in this Class 1A Section 3 match at Youthtowne.


Montour 1, West Allegheny 0

Dom Passaro scored nine minutes into the opening half, and the Spartans made it stand up the rest of the way in posting a Class 3A Section 4 shutout win over the Indians.

Brayden Borris assisted on the goal for Montour and Liam Hovanic registered nine saves in goal.


Aquinas Academy 12, Carlynton 2

The Crusaders rolled past the Cougars in a Class 1A Section 3 match at Carlynton. Xavier O’Leary and Ali Al Masri each scored once for the Cougars in the loss.


GIRLS GOLF

Moon Area 169, Mt. Lebanon 184

Angelina Schild birdied the first hole on the way to a 2-over-par 38 to lead the Tigers past the Blue Devils in a Class 3A Section 2 match at Moon Golf Club.

Moon improved to 9-2 overall and 8-2 in section with the win.

Aubrey Marasco carded a 42, including a birdie on the par-4 No. 4 hole. Liv DeGori needed just 14 putts in shooting a 43 and Gabby Poeta shot a 46.

Tess Kanche led Mt. Lebanon with a score of 43.


BOYS GOLF

Montour’s Michael Pigoni shot a 72 to finish in eighth place in the Midwestern Athletic Conference Tournament at Fox Run Golf Club. The Spartans finished eighth as a team among 18 schools.


GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3, Aliquippa 1

The Chargers spotted the Quips one game, losing the opening set 26-24, but regrouped to win the next three, 25-12, 25-11 and 25-14, in a Class 2A Section 1 match.

Bella Coladonato piled up 22 kills and added four aces while Leah Parker registered 18 kills and six aces.

Carmella Rippole led the Chargers with 16 assists and added three kills and four aces.

Jordyn Velmire led OLSH with nine aces and added 11 assists.

Malley Woynar had five blocks and Addy Batts contributed four kills in the middle as well.


Oakland Catholic 3, Montour 0

The Eagles needed just three sets to dispatch the Spartans, winning 25-10, 25-19 and 25-22 in a Class 3A Section 1 match. No further details were available.


Fort Cherry 3, Bishop Canevin 0

The Rangers won by set scores of 25-16, 25-9, 25-7 in this Class 1A Section 5 match. No further details were available.


Union 3, Cornell 0

The host Scotties prevailed by scores of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-19 in this Class 1A Section 2 match. No further details were available.


Moon Area 3, Eden Christian 2

The Tigers needed five sets to subdue the Class 1A Warriors, winning by scores of 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13 in a non-section match Monday.

Setter Elina Antoniades led the way with 15 assists, eight kills and four blocks while Libero Danic Bacu added 15 digs, five assists and three aces.

Hitters Jade Rodemoyer and Alicia DeCarla added eight and nine kills, respectively in the win.


OTHER SPORTS

Chartiers Valley defeated Montour in boys golf Monday, 209-219. No further information was available.

Mars defeated Montour in girls tennis Monday. No further information was available.
