High school roundup: OLSH boys soccer blanks Carlynton

A second-half explosion helped Our Lady of the Sacred Heart seal an 11-0 victory over Carlynton Tuesday in a Class 1A Section 3 boys soccer match at Youthtowne.

The Chargers led 3-0 at halftime but erupted for eight second-half goals to improve to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in section play.

Brady Hernandez led the attack with three goals while Owen Minzer added two. Six other OLSH players each contributed one goal – Peter Zink, Chad Minton, Jeremy Ye, Colby Lane, Aaron Callahan and Grant Greisacker.


GIRLS GOLF

WPIAL Qualifiers

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart’s Katie Suess shot 42-50-92 Tuesday in a WPIAL Sectional tournament and earned a berth in next week’s Regional tournament – the final step before the WPIAL Tournament.


BOYS GOLF

South Fayette 183, Moon Area 188

Cooper Fazio shot 35 to tie the Lions’ Sam Bishop for medalist honors, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers fell in a Class 3A Section 6 match at Montour Heights Country Club.

The loss left Moon with a 9-3 section record, good enough to reach the WPIAL playoffs.

Ian Bonidie carded a 37 for the Tigers, followed by Matthew Koch at 38, and Chris Brown and Eric Harper, both of whom shot rounds of 39.


Upper St. Clair 201, Montour 206

The Panthers posted a five-stroke victory over the Spartans in a Class 3A Section 6 match at Chartiers Country Club. No individual scores were reported.


GIRLS TENNIS

WPIAL Singles Tournament

Montour’s Raven Karlick will be the lone West Hills area representative to compete in the WPIAL Girls Tennis Singles Championships, which will get under way Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Karlick, the No. 12 seed, will take on No. 4 seed Elinor Kim of North Hills in one of eight first-round matches in the Class 3A portion of the tournament.

All first-round matches will start at 11 a.m. at Bethel Park High School. Consolation final and final matches will start at 1 p.m. Thursday at North Allegheny High School.


GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3, New Brighton 0

Leah Parker totaled 10 kills and four aces to spark the Chargers to a 25-17, 25-20, 25-15 win over the Lions in a Class 2A Section 1 match.

Sophia Wasko had six service aces and 12 digs while Juilia Davoli had four kills, one ace and three digs, Bella Coladonato had four aces and Jordyn Velmire and Carmella Rippole each had 12 assists.

OLSH improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in section play with the win..
