High school roundup: OLSH golf team splits first two matches

The fall high school sports season is officially under way, and the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart golf team has split its first two Class 2A Section 4 matches.

The Chargers opened the season Monday with a 208-214 victory over Avella at Moon Golf Course and then dropped a 190-216 decision to Avonworth Tuesday at Shannopin Country Club.

In the season-opening win, Matthew Prince of OLSH captured medalist honors by shooting a 34, three strokes better than Avella’s Tristan Davis.

Ryan DeNinno’s 42 was second-best for OLSH, followed by Wyatt Walsh (43), Katie Suess (44) and Cam Douglass (45).

In the loss to Avonworth, the Antelopes’ Andrew Hetzko took medalist honors with a par-35.

Prince’s round of 38 led OLSH, followed by Nolan Meyer (41), DeNinno (45, Garrett Carlowski (45) and Walsh (47).

In other fall sports, competition in girls soccer and girls volleyball is scheduled to begin Saturday, with a trio of West Hills schools seeing action.

In girls soccer, Montour visits Ringgold and Moon Area hosts Quaker Valley.

In girls volleyball, Carlynton visits Sewickley Academy and Montour takes on North Allegheny.
