High school roundup: OLSH’s Schollaert captures WPIAL 2A boys golf crown

It wasn’t his best round of the season, but for Jonah Schollaert, it was golden.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart’s senior standout shot a 75 at Valley Brook Country Club in McMurray to wrap up the WPIAL Class 2A boys individual golf championship Tuesday and take home a gold medal.

Schollaert’s final round 75, paired with his opening-round total of 69 last week at Hillcrest Country Club, left him with a two-round total of 144. That was good enough for a two-shot victory over Luke Sikora of Greensburg Salem.

Sikora also shot a 75 Tuesday and, like Schollaert, will advance to the PIAA Championships, set for Oct. 20 at Penn State Golf Course.

Also advancing is Jamin Brock of Bishop Canevin, who followed his opening-round score of 79 with an 82 Tuesday for a total score of 161.

Brock finished 17th among the 43 competitors, and the top 18 finishers will move on to State College.

Rocco Bautti of Neshannock and Trey Susa of Sewickley Academy both finished with two-round totals of 149.

Schollaert is no stranger to PIAA tournament competition; he tied for second at last year’s tournament, shooting a 4-under-par two-round total of 140 on Penn State’s blue course.
