The Carlynton girls track team raced its way into next week’s WPIAL Class 2A Track and Field Championships by going 3-0 in a first-round meet Wednesday at California High School.
The Cougars downed Freeport Area, 96-53; Southmoreland, 106-43; and California, 106-34, to advance to the finals, which will take place Tuesday, May 6, at Peters Township Middle School.
There, Carlynton will take on North Catholic, Quaker Valley and Laurel. North Catholic defeated Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, the Section 2 champion, 104-36, while going 3-0 Wednesday.
Cougars coach Nate Milsom was understandably thrilled with Wednesday’s effort.
“The girls knew what they had to do and came and took care of business,” he said. “They had a lot of confidence and went out and performed.
“I’m so proud of them and excited for their opportunity next Tuesday.”
