Dean Douglass stole home with two outs in the fifth inning to snap a 3-3 tie and lift Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 4-3 victory over Riverview Wednesday in a WPIAL Class 2A Section 3 baseball showdown.
The win enabled the Chargers to capture the Section 3 title outright, as they finished with an 11-1 record. It’s OLSH’s second section title in as many years.
Riverview entered the game trailing OLSH by one game in the standings, and a Raiders’ win would have given them a share of the section crown. Instead, Riverview finished at 9-3.
The Raiders opened the scoring with a three-run first inning. Eli DeVita singled home one run and Miles Duncan followed with a two-run double to make it 3-0.
A bases-loaded walk to OLSH’s Colby Lane cut the Chargers’ deficit to 3-1 in the second inning and Iseia Fields-Schulz drove in a run in the third inning to pull OLSH to within 3-2.
OLSH’s Gino Williams then evened the score in the fourth inning at 3-3 when he banged a two-out double that brought home Wyatt Walsh.
The game remained tied until the fifth. Sean Hudac led off the inning with a walk and pinch runner Walsh moved to second when Douglass was hit by a pitch.
After a pop out, a balk moved the runners up 90 feet. But Walsh was thrown out at the plate on Fields-Schulz’s sacrifice bunt, which moved Douglass to third.
With Bruno Williams at the plate, Douglass stole home to put OLSH on top, 4-3, and that proved to be the difference.
Fields-Schulz worked the first six innings on the mound and gave up eight hits and two earned runs. He walked just one and struck out six. Hudac came on in the seventh inning to retire the side in order and nail down the win.
Thomas Medwig and Fields-Schulz each had two hits to lead the Chargers’ six-hit attack.

Yaniel Heredia’s three-run double keyed a four-run second-inning outburst and that carried the Raiders past the Spartans in a non-section game at Montour.
Each team scored a run in the first inning, with Montour’s run coming on a wild pitch.
But Central Catholic took advantage of three walks to load the bases in the second, and Heredia cleared them with his double to left.
CJ Proch’s base hit made it 5-1 and he delivered an RBI double in the fourth to extend the Raiders’ lead to 6-1.
Montour added its final run in the sixth inning on an error by the Central Catholic catcher that allowed Michael Ivanoff to score.

Carlynton jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Isaac Anker tripled home a run and then scored on an errant throw.
But Springdale answered with a run in the home half of the first, then erupted for six in the second.
Anker also drove in a run with a fielder’s choice, as did Eric Firle, in the third inning that cut Springdale’s lead to 7-4, but the Dynamos answered with two in the bottom of the inning.
