High school sports: Montour volleyball sweeps South Fayette

Dylan Huff registered 10 kills and three blocks to spark the Montour Spartans to a 3-0 victory over South Fayette in a WPIAL Class 2A Section 4 boys volleyball matchup Thursday night.

The victory, which came by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-21, gave Montour a 2-1 record in section play and evened the Spartans’ overall mark at 3-3.

Gaige Schoff and Isaiah Henderson each added seven kills in the win for Montour and Schoff contributed a pair of aces.

Ben Slifkey collected 31 assists and also added two aces for the Spartans.


SOFTBALL

Union 20, Bishop Canevin 0

The Crusaders were no match for the Scotties — one of the top teams in Class 1A – in this Section 1 matchup Friday. Union scored 13 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Addie Nogay had two hits and drove in three runs while Mia Preuhs drove in three more for Union.

Lia Pilarski and Ava Washington had the only two hits for Bishop Canevin, which committed seven errors.

Two other games involving West Hills area schools were postponed – Montour vs. West Allegheny, which will be played April 26, and Moon vs. South Fayette.

BASEBALL

Steel Valley 15, Sto-Rox 0

The Vikings managed just one hit – a single off the bat of Jamarcus Pierce — and fell to the Ironmen in a non-section game Friday.

Adan Keesecker had two hits and drove in four runs while Logan Thomas went 3 for 3 and had three RBIs for Steel Valley.


BOYS TENNIS

Both of Moon Area’s representatives in the Class 3A Section 2 singles tournament lost in the first round and were eliminated.

Nolan Jaczcar, the No. 8 seed, was defeated by Cal Johnson of Mars, 10-1, and Moon’s Adam Jaczcar, the No. 12 seed fell to Will Bojalad of Sewickley Academy, 10-1.
