High school sports: Moon tops West Allegheny; OLSH remains unbeaten in WPIAL golf action

Matthew Koch and Chris Brown shot 36 to tie for team-best honors and lead Moon Area to a 187-193 victory over West Allegheny Thursday in a WPIAL Class 3A Section 6 golf match at Quicksilver Golf Club.

Cooper Fazio finished with a 37 for the Tigers while Patrick Queen and Ian Bonidie followed with 39s.

Nico Ward of West Allegheny captured medalist honors with a score of 33. Others scoring for the Indians were Levi Vaughn (37), Tommy Slomski (39), Luke Dove (42) and Ethan Bobonski (42).


OLSH 205, Chartiers Houston 212

The Chargers improved to 4-0 in Class 2A Section 4 competition with a victory Thursday at Moon Golf Club.

Jonah Schollaert shot 3-under-par 33 for OLSH to take medalist honors for the Chargers. Ryan DeNinno followed at 39, Matthew Prince 41, Nolan Meyer 45 and Katie Suess 47.


GIRLS TENNIS

North Hills 5, Moon Area 0

Winchester Thurston 5, Moon Area 0

The Tigers were no match for the Indians, who swept the No. 1 singles match and lost just one game in the two doubles matches combined.

Moon’s No. 2 singles Hayley Bates gave North Hills’ Adelaide Seigworth a battle before falling 6-3, 6-3.

Bates also put up a fight in her second set against Winchester Thursday’s Fiona Kamin, losing 7-6 (7-5) after dropping the first set 6-1. Moon’s Hannah Albert lost the third set 6-4, 6-4 to Carolyn Frye.
