Kulik won’t seek re-election in 2026 but will finish her current term in state House

State Rep. Anita Astorino Kulik, D-Allegheny, announced Monday she would step down at the end of her current legislative term on Nov. 30, 2026, saying it was time to encourage “new people to take their turn to serve.”

Kulik, the former longtime Kennedy Township commissioner who was first elected to the state House of Representatives in 2016, issued a statement announcing her decision, saying that it “did not come lightly and came after long thought and discussions with my family.”

Kulik said she would continue to serve the people of the 45th Legislative District until the end of her term, adding that she looks forward to “all the wonderful things that are coming up in the next year for our region and Commonwealth.”

Kulik’s announcement comes nearly four months after the state’s June 30 budget deadline came and went without a spending plan in place.

Kulik, who did not respond to a request for an interview Monday, opened her announcement by stating that working for residents of Pennsylvania, particularly those in the communities within the 45th District, has been the “honor of my life.”

“It has been the greatest privilege to serve the people of Collier, Kennedy, Neville, Robinson, Stowe, Bridgeville, Carnegie, Coraopolis, McKees Rocks and Pennsbury Village,” she said. “Earlier on I also had the privilege to serve the people of Scott, Rosslyn Farms and the four North boroughs.

“Being able to serve in the areas where I grew up and spent my life made my terms in office so very special. The people and communities are amazing, and it was truly a privilege to be able to serve and represent them.”

However, Kulik added that she believes completely in representative government and that those fortunate enough to be elected to office “must understand that, after a certain period of time, new people should be encouraged to run and take their turn to serve.”

Kulik complimented both her district office and Harrisburg office staffs and said she’s grateful that they’ll be staying on to finish her term in 2026.

Kulik also said she’s proud of what has been accomplished in her years of service for her constituents and the people of the state as a whole.

“I am especially proud of what has been accomplished for the outdoor sports women and men, as I was chosen to serve as chair of the House Game and Fisheries Committee.”

In addition to her work with that committee, she has served on a various other House committees.

A Carnegie native, Kulik graduated from Bishop Canevin High School and received her bachelors and justic doctor degrees from Duquesne.

Kulik began her legal career as a law clerk in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. She has served as an adjunct professor teaching paralegal courses, and has served as a clerk in the Pennsylvania Superior Court. Her practice has consisted of domestic cases, including custody and protection from abuse (PFA) matters, as well as real estate and estate matters.

Kulik and her husband, Joseph, are the parents of Sarah Wrona, who is married to Joshua, and Joseph E. Kulik, who is married to her daughter-in-law Kirby. Anita has two grandchildren, Kennedy and Keaton.
