Live Blog: 49th Annual Cleveland International Film Festival

The 49th annual Cleveland International Film Festival, one of the nation’s largest and oldest film festivals, is underway and continues through April 5.

The event is taking place at Playhouse Square, one of the largest performing arts centers outside of New York. Some 300 films from 60 countries will be shown during the festival’s 10-day run, including features, shorts and documentaries.

The festival attracts more than 70,000 film enthusiasts annually, and the films scheduled for showing provide valuable insights into diverse cultures, relevant topics and the independent perspectives of local and global filmmakers.

The festival is one of the few globally that qualifies for Academy Awards in all three short film categories – live action, animated and documentary – and has been recognized as one of the world’s top film festivals.
