Fans of Jenny Lee Cinnamon Swirl Bread have something sweet to look forward to.
Jenny Lee Breakfast Nook is expected to open in Moon Township in June.
Located at 1014 Brodhead Road, most recently site of A Taste of Ita-Lee, the Breakfast Nook will offer French toast made with the ever-popular Jenny Lee Swirl breads in addition to breakfast sandwiches, gourmet grilled cheese, smash burgers, savory breads and more.
“You don’t have a place where people can sit down and enjoy family and friends in conversation and literally break bread together, so that was my goal.”
– Scott Baker, president 5 Generation Bakers
After Jenny Lee Bakery in McKees Rocks closed in 2008, several members of the family rebranded under the name 5 Generation Bakers in 2009 and began selling baked goods to local retailers.
Scott Baker, president of 5 Generation Bakers and partner in Jenny Lee Breakfast Nook, has been thinking about opening a breakfast diner and sandwich shop for years. “So many people use our breads for great breakfasts and sandwiches, I thought there ought to be a menu designed around our bread,” he said.

Since Baker, who grew up in Moon Township, learned all about the baking business from his dad and grandfather, he wanted to pay homage to the breakfast nook at his grandfather’s house he so fondly remembers from his childhood.
“You don’t have a place where people can sit down and enjoy family and friends in conversation and literally break bread together, so that was my goal,” Baker said.
Legacy continues
For 150 years, members of the Baker family have been creating specialty treats for the Pittsburgh area. It all began in 1875, with the opening of the Michael A. Baker Bakery in the West End of Pittsburgh. His seven sons had plenty of ideas on how to grow the business and once their father retired, the business name became “The Seven Baker Brothers Bakery.”
The third generation of Bakers brought gems like Karns Bakery in Robinson, The McKees Rocks Bread Company and Jenny Lee Bakery. Jenny Lee was opened by Baker’s grandfather, Paul, in 1938 in the present-day Market Square of Pittsburgh. Jenny Lee grew to have 14 locations in the region but was forced to close in 2008 after a Thanksgiving Day fire in 2006 caused the loss of half of its wholesale customers and caused retail shoppers to go elsewhere. In 2009, 5 Generation Bakers was opened as a commercial manufacturer of frozen wholesale products including Cinnamon Swirl and Cinnamon Raisin breads.
On April 1, 2025, Baker and his business partners, Jack Hunt, Rich Bufalini, Rocco Bufalini and RJ Carrabbia, picked up the keys for the Moon Township Breakfast Nook location. The partners plan to open a second and possibly a third restaurant later this year. All Baker could say is conversations are ongoing in Beaver and Butler counties.
Jenny Lee Breakfast Nook’s hours at the Moon location are expected to be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
A soft opening is planned for either late May or early June, with the opening date targeted for the second or third week in June.
Gluten-free options will be available.
