Nine West Hills golfers will move on to their respective WPIAL individual championship tournament next week by virtue of their performances at Monday’s sectional tournaments.
Four Moon Area golfers – Matthew Koch, Ian Bonidie, Cooper Fazio and Chris Brown – advanced to next week’s Class 3A tournament by meeting the target score of 79 at Moon Golf Club.
Three Montour golfers – Michael Pigoni, Lane Martinec and Joel Altenhof – also made the grade at the same sectional tournament.
Two golfers from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart – Jonah Schollaert and Matthew Prince – qualified for the Class 2A tournament by meeting the target score of 84 at Indian Run Golf Course.
At the Class 3A sectional, Koch placed third among 42 golfers with an 18-hole score of 72. Bonidie carded a 73, one stroke better than Fazio while Brown finished with a 79.
All will move on to the WPIAL Tournament, scheduled for Monday, Sept. 22, at Willowbrook Country Club.
Montour’s Altenhof led the Spartans contingent with a round of 75 while Pigoni shot 77, one stroke better than teammate Martinec.
Failing to advance for Montour were Landon Keaton (84), Drew Dess (82) and Leve Gladu (89).
Sam Bishop of South Fayette led all golfers with a round of 64.
At the Class 2A qualifying tournament, Schollaert finished with 35-38-73 while Prince came in at 43-41-84 to advance to next week’s WPIAL event.
