UPDATE: A nonverbal kindergarten student who wandered off from the playground at Sto-Rox Primary Center in Kennedy Township Tuesday morning and was missing for more than seven hours was found safe a little after 7 p.m.
According Allegheny County police, Jedadiah Jackson was found in a heavily wooded area behind the school.
County police spokesman James Madalinsky said multiple agencies were involved in locating Jedadiah, including drones and dozens of first responders on the ground.
“We’re glad Jedadiah was found safe and we’re grateful for everyone’s efforts in assisting us during this search,” Madalinsky said.
The following statement was posted to Sto-Rox School District’s website at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday:
“We are deeply relieved and grateful to share that the missing student has been found. On behalf of our Sto-Rox family and community, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the first responders and Sto-Rox staff members who played a role in the search, along with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and our community partners.”
County police had said earlier that at least 1,000 county, local and area police and civilians were combing the area early Tuesday evening in search of Jedadiah Jackson. The search for the youngster utilized people on foot, in vehicles and all-terrain vehicles, and drones and helicopters. K-9 units and their handlers combed the woods surrounding the school.

Neighbors who live in the area of the Sto-Rox Primary Center were asked to check their property, including pools and sheds, as well as any security cameras. Police asked anyone with information to call 911 or 1-833-ALL TIPS directly and refer to “Kennedy Township Missing Child” when calling.
