Robinson hires McDonald consulting firm to take over planning, zoning and code enforcement

A McDonald firm will take over planning, zoning and code enforcement duties for Robinson Township in the wake of two retirements earlier this month.

United Code Consultants began working at the beginning of July following the retirement of longtime Planning Director and Zoning Officer Rick Urbano, who stepped down after more than 25 years as planning director, and Code Enforcement Officer Joe Schonbeck.

The service agreement between the township and United Code Consultants, approved by the township Board of Commissioners last week, will run through the end of the calendar year but can be automatically renewed annually upon township approval on or before Nov. 30. Either party can terminate the agreement without cause with no less than 30 days’ notice. UCC will have a presence at the township’s new municipal complex off Campbells Run Road.

The consultant firm will provide a variety of services in the areas of code enforcement/property maintenance and zoning and will have a state certified building code official to review commercial and residential plans, issue permits and enforce the statewide building code, among other duties. UCC also will enforce the local zoning ordinance, review zoning permit applications and issue zoning permits.

In terms of compensation, fees for all permits, inspections and plan reviews will be invoiced by UCC directly to each project applicant, with 20% of the permit cost to be added on and paid to the township monthly. For example, for a $300 residential deck permit, a $60 fee would be added, bringing the total building permit cost to $360, and the $60 municipal fee ultimately would be paid to the township.
