Semifinal loss to Pine-Richland eliminates Moon girls from WPIAL lacrosse tournament

The Moon Area Tigers’ run in the WPIAL Class 3A girls lacrosse tournament ended Monday evening in a 16-6 loss to top-seeded Pine-Richland in a semifinal game played at Fox Chapel High School.

The Tigers, seeded No. 4, trailed 9-4 at halftime, with Haley Hutton leading the offensive charge.

Hutton scored three of Moon’s goals, all in the second quarter.

Marleigh Therrien put the Tigers on the scoreboard in the first quarter and she later assisted on Giana Deluca’s goal.

But Pine-Richland doubled its five-goal halftime lead by the time the game ended.

Avery Machusko scored Moon’s remaining goal, which came in the fourth quarter.

Moon goaltender Shiri Kudratullaev stopped 20 of the 36 shots she faced in a valiant effort to keep the Tigers in the game.

Kudratullaev has been a standout all season, registering upward of 185 saves for Moon.
