Investigation finds magistrate did not commit judicial misconduct

The Judicial Conduct Board dismissed a complaint against Pittsburgh magistrate Xander Orenstein, who faced criticism after releasing a man charged with a fatal stabbing. State Rep. Valerie Gaydos urged the investigation but the Board found no judicial misconduct. Orenstein remains off arraignment duties.

State Rep. Anita Kulik has called for the resignation of Magisterial District Justice Xander Orenstein following the fatal stabbing of Officer Benjamin Brallier. The suspect in the case was previously released on nonmonetary bail by Orenstein. Kulik calls for an investigation by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court into the circumstances surrounding Brallier's death and the judicial system’s failures.
