An Allegheny County official said it could be as long as five months before a cause and manner of death can be determined for two men whose bodies were found in Montour Run Creek, near the Montour Trail in Moon Township, June 28.
Abigail Gardner, a county spokesperson, said July 10 that toxicology reports have been ordered for Alexi Heber Verdugo Lopez, 34, and Bilson Ramirez, 22.
According to the Allegheny County Police Department, the county 911 system was notified shortly after 4 p.m. on June 28 that a body was floating in Montour Run Creek, near the Montour Run Trail in Moon Township.
First responders observed the body of Ramirez, who already was deceased, floating in approximately 6 feet of water.
Divers were summoned to the scene and while they were retrieving Ramirez’s body, they discovered Verdugo’s body in approximately 10 feet of water.
Preliminary information showed no signs of foul play.
Gardner said the county medical examiner will not issue a cause and manner of death until toxicology results are in. That could take anywhere from six to 20 weeks, Gardner said.
Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
A GoFundMe page has been created to raise money to return the body of Ramirez to his native Guatemala and to return Verdugo’s body to his native Mexico.
A person who identified himself as Anibal Ramirez and claimed to be the older brother of Ramirez created the page.
Anibal Ramirez said on the GoFundMe.com site that Bilson Ramirez left a wife and three children ages 5, 3 and 1 in Guatemala.
Anibal Ramirez also said that Verdugo left a wife and a 3-year-old daughter in Mexico.
Anibal Ramirez is seeking to raise $32,000 and as of Sunday morning, $950 had been raised.
