Isabella Sysak and Kya Cooley combined for 22 first-half points to help Bishop Canevin take control early en route to a 60-19 thrashing of visiting Northgate Tuesday night in a girls basketball game.
Sysak scored 13 of her 18 points in the opening two quarters while Cooley contributed nine of her 16 during the same time period.
The Crusaders, now 2-0, sprinted to a 27-2 lead after one quarter and widened their margin to 40-5 at halftime.
“We played smothering team defense,” Bishop Canevin coach Rob Travis said afterward. “And we were very unselfish.”
Cassidy Auth scored 11 points to lead Northgate.

Claudia Ierullo scored a game-high 22 points and Lola Garner contributed 17 to help the Chargers to their second win in two starts.
Leah Parker added seven points for OLSH, which led 25-19 at halftime and maintained that six-point cushion going into the final quarter before pulling away.
Patty Wesolowski scored 13 points to lead Lincoln Park.
BOYS: Springdale 82, Cornell 37
John Duku scored 12 points and Landon Linderman added 11, and the Dynamos used their superior size to subdue the Raiders.
Springdale sprinted to a 29-9 first-quarter lead and owned a 50-25 margin at intermission. The Dynamos continued to pour it on, outscoring Cornell 20-7 in the third quarter.
Santana Lee scored 15 points to pace Cornell, which fell to 1-1, and Eduardo Benitez contributed 12.
Cornell coach Brian Bethel said he thought his team came out flat, but he also saw some positive things – “and I saw some things that give a coach gray hair.
“We had opportunities – we just have to do a better job of taking advantage of them.”
