Kole Olszewski and Myontae Mott each accounted for a pair of touchdowns to propel Bishop Canevin to a 56-20 shellacking of Monessen Saturday night at Dormont Memorial Stadium.

The Crusaders, ranked No. 3 among all Class A schools in the WPIAL by TribLive.com, took a while to get going, but once they did, they cruised to their fourth Class A Black Hills Conference win in five starts and improved to 6-2 overall.

Monessen, which came into the game ranked No. 5 among Class A schools by TribLive.com, fell to 3-2 in the conference and 7-2 overall.

Bishop Canevin scored midway through the first quarter when Lamier Wade recovered a fumble for a score, and the first of Leo Shorthouse’s six extra-point kicks made it 7-0.

Olszewski’s 1-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter widened the Crusaders’ lead to 14-0, but three minutes later, Monessen countered when Rodney Johnson caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Dennis Hawkins, and the Greyhounds tacked on a two-point conversion to cut their deficit to 14-8.

However, Bishop Canevin wasted no time in responding, as Mott returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, giving the Crusaders a 20-8 lead.

Then, with less than two minutes to play in the first half, Mott went in from a yard out, and a failed two-point conversion attempt left Bishop Canevin with a 26-8 lead at halftime.

The Crusaders’ first score of the second half came with a little under 7 minutes to play in the third quarter when Minikon Johnson recorded a tackle in the end zone for a safety.

A little less than four minutes later, Ka’Vere Holeman scored on an 11-yard run for Bishop Canevin, making the score 35-8.

After Tyvaughn Kershaw’s 39-yard touchdown run for Monessen, the Crusaders answered with back-to-back scores – Mott’s 39-yard run and a 40-yard pass from Olszewski to Damar Olds.

Kershaw’s second touchdown run of the night for Monessen made it 49-20, and Bishop Canevin closed the scoring on Jermell Lindsey’s 48-yard touchdown run.

Mott finished with 92 yards on 12 carries for the Crusaders while Olszewski completed 10 of 16 passes for 155 yards.
