Damien Holloway scored 14 of his 22 points in the second half and Mikey Jenkins drained seven 3-pointers for 21 points to help visiting Carlynton roll to a 64-33 victory over East Allegheny Thursday night in a WPIAL nonsection boys basketball game.
Holloway scored six points in the opening quarter to help the Cougars jump out to a 16-7 lead, and they maintained that nine-point edge through the second quarter for a 22-13 halftime lead.
Jenkins contributed two of his seven 3-pointers in the opening half and Julian Torres added five points.
The Cougars took control for good in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 22-11 to put the game out of reach.
Holloway scored eight in that quarter while Mark Jameson added seven for Carlynton, which improved to 4-3 on the season.
Jenkins finished the game with a flourish, hitting four 3-pointers in the final eight minutes.
Carlynton coach Dan DeRose thought his team played well after a bit of a slow start in the first half. “We had trouble putting the ball in the basket (in the first half),” DeRose said. “But we played good defense the whole way.
“Mikey (Jenkins) got hot in the second half. We really worked the ball well and executed in the second half.”
Jameson finished with 10 points for Carlynton.
Jaden Patterson and Cedrick Mack each scored 14 points to lead East Allegheny.
Beaver County Christian 52, Cornell 39
Hunter Mozley scored 11 of his game-high 30 points in the second quarter to help the Eagles take control on the way to a win over the Raiders in the Class 1A Section 1 opener for both teams.
Beaver County Christian led by just three, 14-11, after one quarter, but outscored Cornell 18-7 in the second quarter to extend its lead to 32-18 at halftime.
Santana Lee scored 17 points to lead Cornell, which fell to 1-6 overall.
