Three West Hills swimmers competed at the PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday, with Cornell's Mimi Chamberlain winning a seventh-place medal in the 100 breaststroke. Fellow Cornell swimmer Noah Pickett placed first in the 500 freestyle B final, while Evey Fahnestock did not advance past preliminaries in the 100 breaststroke.
In the WPIAL Class 3A girls lacrosse tournament, the Moon Area Tigers lost 16-6 to Pine-Richland, with Haley Hutton scoring three goals and goalkeeper Shiri Kudratullaev making 20 saves during the match.
Three West Hills high school teams are set for the WPIAL Baseball Championships, with OLSH as the No. 2 seed in Class 2A, Bishop Canevin seeded 4th in Class 1A, and Montour at No. 14 in Class 5A. Moon's girls lacrosse team is seeded No. 4 in the WPIAL tournament.
Three West Hills schools are set to compete in the WPIAL Softball Championships, with games getting underway next week. Moon takes on Penn-Trafford and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart meets Apollo-Ridge and Cornell battles Serra Catholic, highlighting the tournament's fierce competition among 76 teams.
Dean Douglass stole home in the fifth inning, securing a 4-3 win for Our Lady of the Sacred Heart over Riverview, clinching the Class 2A Section 3 title with an 11-1 record.
Montour defeated Ellwood City 11-1, aided by an eight-run first inning, with key hits from Quinn Dalverny and Zander Stern. Other games included Taylor Allderdice's 8-3 win over Bishop Canevin.
The Carlynton girls track team advanced to the WPIAL Class 2A Championships by going 3-0 in Wednesday's opening round, with individual victories from Jordynn Carter and Bridget McNamara. Upcoming finals are on May 6 at Peters Township.
