A new mobile clinic will treat patients in the McKees Rocks area and the Hilltop neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
The Sto-Rox Family Health Center is operating a new mobile van, which is a full-fledged clinic designed to provide care for residents in the McKees Rocks area and the Hilltop neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
Blood pressure, glucose screenings, COVID-19 vaccinations and free COVID-19 at-home tests will be offered. Eventually, they hope the van can provide primary care, according to Terri Clark, chief executive officer of the Sto-Rox Family Health Center.
“The whole thrust is accessibility. A lot of our patients have trouble with transportation,” said Clark, who began working at the Sto-Rox Family Health Center two years ago, coming in at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clark said they’re hoping to eventually work with schools, churches and community organizations to connect people to care. At this time a schedule for mobile health visits hasn’t been established, but those dates will eventually be shown on their website at http://www.storox.org or the organization’s Facebook page.
Clark said funding for the vehicle came through The American Rescue Plan. The organization has been promised $2.5 million through pandemic relief programs, $1.6 million of which has been spent.
“We provided testing and services when we did not have a van. This will provide a convenient, comfortable place for all of those things,” Clark said.
The Sto-Rox Family Health Center is a federally-qualified health center that has serviced McKees Rocks for 50 years.
