Tiffany Miller and Abby Cleary combined to score 27 points, sparking Montour to a 51-24 victory over New Castle Wednesday night in a WPIAL Class 5A Section 3 girls basketball game at New Castle.
Miller totaled 14 points to lead the Spartans, who snapped a four-game losing streak, and Cleary chipped in with 13.
Montour bolted to an 18-6 lead after one quarter and extended its margin to 31-10 at halftime. The Spartans were never threatened after that. The win boosted Montour’s overall record to 7-9 and their record in section play to 2-6.
Rhianna Boice, New Castle’s 1,000-point scorer, led the Red Hurricanes with 10 points.
