Brooklyn Sykes led three players in double figures with 14 points and Sto-Rox used pressure defense to break open a close game in the third quarter and whip host Ambridge, 46-35, in the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Girls Hall of Fame Classic Saturday.

Sto-Rox overcame a subpar first quarter to win for the sixth time in 10 outings this season. The Vikings won just four games all last season.

The host Bridgers kept things close in the first half, trailing 7-5 after one quarter and 16-10 at halftime. But the Vikings woke up in the second half of the 10 a.m. start, outscoring Ambridge 18-4 to take complete control of the game.

Sykes scored eight of her 14 points in the third quarter while Kamiyah Johnson scored seven of her 12 in that same period.

“We started out a little flat-footed and we were dropping back at the beginning,” Sto-Rox coach Jeff Stuart said. “To wake them up, I told them to start putting pressure on them. We ended up getting some good steals and taking it to the basket. We were moving it really well. It was one of their better games.”

Rae Johnston contributed 12 points for Sto-Rox. Naviah Cox scored 21 points, with 15 of them coming after the game was out of reach in the fourth quarter.

Claudia Ierullo scored 12 of her 17 points in the second quarter as the unbeaten Chargers exploded for 28 points in that eight-minute stretch to take control en route to a win over the Vikings in the PBC Girls Hall of Fame Classic.

OLSH found itself locked in a 10-10 tie after one quarter but the Chargers went off in the second quarter, outscoring Hopewell 28-10 to build a 38-20 lead at halftime.

The onslaught continued in the third quarter, as OLSH used an 18-3 advantage to put the game away.

Sara Daeschner scored 11 points for the Chargers, who improved to 6-0, and Lola Garner added 10. Allison Ramaley led Hopewell with seven points.

Allderdice 55, Montour 38

Bailey White scored 13 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter to help the Dragons come from behind and beat the Spartans in the PBC Girls Hall of Fame Classic.

Montour jumped to a 15-5 first-quarter lead as the Dragons had trouble getting going in the 10 a.m. start. The Spartans continued to lead 23-19 at halftime and took a 30-28 lead into the final eight minutes.

But that’s when Allderdice came alive. In addition to White scoring 13 fourth-quarter points, Rhyan Sledge netted 12 in the final quarter to help the Dragons pull away. White went 9-of-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Montour coach Jordan Giles said her team’s turnovers were too much to overcome, and Allderdice’s free throw shooting also was key. The Dragons converted 19 of 25 of free throw attempts in the game, including 13 of 17 in the final quarter.

Sledge finished with 16 for reigning City League champions and Peyton Lynch contributed 15, with 10 of those coming in the second quarter.

Montour, which dropped to 4-4 on the season, was led by Tiffany Miller’s eight points, and Sofia Brandy contributed seven.
