In a seesaw match that saw the two teams alternate winning sets, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart claimed a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Avonworth Thursday night in a WPIAL Class 2A Section 1 girls volleyball matchup at Avonworth.
OLSH opened the match with a 25-13 win, then Avonworth rebounded to take a 25-17 second-set victory.
The Chargers went up 2-1 with a 25-21 victory in the third set, but the Antelopes tied things up at 2-2 with a 25-16 triumph. OLSH then took the fifth and deciding set, 15-10.
Lola Garner led the Chargers in kills while Malley Woynar was tops in blocks. Sophia Wasko and Leah Parker contributed several aces.
Avonworth took the junior varsity match in three sets, 27-25, 20-25 and 17-15.
East Allegheny 3, Sto-Rox 0
The Vikings were swept by the Wild Cats, 25-22, 25-10 and 25-14 in a Class 2A Section 2 match played Thursday night at East Allegheny. No other information was provided.
