Tyler Maddix stroked a pair of triples and drove in three runs as Bishop Canevin pounded Sewickley Academy, 15-0, Monday in a WPIAL Class 1A Section 3 baseball matchup that ended after 3½ innings.
Maddix was one of three Crusaders players to finish with multiple hits as they outhit the Panthers 11-2 in cruising to the win.
Aaryn Edwards collected two hits, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs while Layne Gerba added two hits and scored twice.
Kellen Andruscik scored three times and had a hit while Kole Olszewski added a double and an RBI while scoring once and Jackson Maddix drove in a run with a base hit.
Gerba allowed just two hits in his three innings of work on the mound, walking one and striking out three.
South Fayette 7, Moon Area 2
Chaz Kosko went 3-for-3 and Trey Skeen added two hits and drove in a pair of runs to spark the Lions past the Tigers in a Class 5A Section 2 matchup.
South Fayette jumped on Moon starting pitcher Chris Sandor for five runs on six hits and a walk in the first inning and that proved to be the difference.
Cody Bungert, Ryan Speer, Kosko and Skeen all delivered RBI singles in that opening frame for South Fayette, which outhit Moon 11-9 and took advantage of three Tigers miscues.
Moon’s only runs came in the third inning on an RBI single by Angelo Fachet and Sandor’s RBI single in the seventh.
Thad Longwell and Nick Machusko each contributed two hits for Moon. Tyler Ebner worked four innings in relief of Sandor and gave up four hits and one earned run while walking two and striking out three.
Obama Academy 8, Sto-Rox 2
A pair of three-run innings proved to be the difference as the Eagles downed the host Vikings. Luke Ehman collected three hits, drove in three runs and scored twice for Obama Academy, which spotted Sto-Rox a 1-0 lead in the first inning and trailed 2-1 before erupting for three runs in the fourth inning. James Lozecki doubled in a run to lead that rally.
Chase Burks had half of Sto-Rox’s four hits and scored a run. JaMarcus Pierce drove in a pair of runs, one of which came on a first-inning double.
Chris Bell started for Sto-Rox and worked the first two innings, giving up two hits and a run while walking one and striking out four.
Riverview 10, Carlynton 0
Miles Duncan had three hits and Eli DeVita added two to back Johnny Bertucci’s one-hit pitching over five innings as the Raiders blanked the Cougars in a Class 2A Section 3 game.
Bertucci struck out eight and walked one in picking up the victory. Riverview collected 11 hits to just one – Mason Mulligan’s single – for Carlynton.
