Matteo Weber had a pair of hits and drove in three runs and Michael Ivanoff pitched four strong innings to lead Montour to a 5-3 victory over Silo (Oklahoma) Saturday in St. Petersburg, Fla.
That was the second win in two days for the Spartans in Florida, as they edged Clearwater Central Catholic, 6-5, on Friday. Saturday’s win was the 100th career victory for Montour coach Bob Janeda, who is 100-45 two games into his seventh season.
In Saturday’s win, Weber smacked a solo home run to key a two-run first inning, then drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to give Montour a 3-0 lead. Weber then added an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth after the Oklahoma squad had trimmed the Spartans’ lead to 3-2.
Caleb Armbruster contributed two hits for Montour.
Ivanhoff worked the first four innings, giving up two hits and two unearned runs while walking four and striking out six.
Dalton Young gave up three hits in 2 1/3 innings of relief and Gavin Foley retired the final two batters for Montour.
In Friday’s win, Zander Stern and Zachary Ciamacco had two hits each and Dalton Young drove in three runs to lift the Spartans to a win.
Cyprian Slifkey earned the victory and Stern picked up the save. Stern threw three scoreless innings, allowing one hit.
Washington 16, Bishop Canevin 11
Noah Patton’s two-run single keyed a 10-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning and lifted the Prexies past the Crusaders in a WPIAL nonsection game.
Bishop Canevin built an 8-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning when the Prexies scored five runs to cut their deficit to 8-6. The Crusaders answered with three runs in the top of the sixth without the benefit of a hit to make it 11-6, as two runs scored on an error and Nico Trigona stole home.
But Washington sent 15 batters to the plate in the top of the sixth, parlaying seven hits, three walks, a hit batsman and an error to score 10 times. Patton’s single snapped an 11-11 tie and gave the Prexies a 13-11 lead, and William Callan and Isaac Charnik added RBI singles for the winners.
Charnik finished with three hits and three RBIs while Joseph Wilson and Jayden Hagan also drove in three runs for Washington.
Trigona sparked a three-run rally in the third with a two-run single and Brady Wagner added a run-scoring single for Bishop Canevin. Wagner also had an RBI single in the fourth for the Crusaders and Jakob Zahler added an RBI base hit.
Wagner and Zahler each had two hits and scored three runs while Trigona added two hits, knocked in two and scored twice.
Quaker Valley 7, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3
Todd Kagle had two hits and drove in two runs and the Quakers also took advantage of 10 walks and six OLSH errors to claim a nonsection victory.
Quaker Valley scored two runs in three out of the first four innings to build a 6-2 lead and held on for the win.
The Chargers outhit the Quakers 7-4 and Angelo Ursida had two of those hits. Landon Garner and Owen Minzer each had a hit and an RBI for OLSH.
BOYS LACROSSE
Chartiers Valley 15, Moon Area 4
Brody Eckert, Tyler Ziegler, Ryder Zalin and Owen Hopkins each scored once for the Tigers, but it wasn’t nearly enough in a nonsection loss to the Colts Thursday.
Chartiers Valley led just 5-4 at halftime but broke the game open with a 10-0 second-half advantage.
