Jackson Maddix and Drew Allen combined for 22 first-half points to set the pace, sparking Bishop Canevin to a 66-39 victory over Carlynton Tuesday night in a WPIAL Class 3A Section 2 boys basketball matchup at Carlynton.

Crusaders coach Aaron McGee said his team’s defense was the key to the victory.

“We did a great job of executing the game plan defensively and getting out in transition, turning defense into offense,” he said.

Raukeem Hawkins added 10 points for the Crusaders, who improved to 3-0 in section play and 4-7 overall.

Devonte Dean scored 13 points to lead Carlynton, which dropped to 1-2 in the section and 5-6 overall.

But the Spartans’ defense came to life in the third quarter, enabling them to open up a 68-44 lead by the end of the quarter.
