Damien Holloway and Devonte Dean combined for 21 points to help propel Carlynton to a 68-30 victory over Cornell Friday night in a WPIAL boys basketball game at Cornell.
Holloway finished with 22 points, eight of which came in the opening quarter when the Cougars bolted to an 18-12 lead.
Carlynton took control in the second period, outscoring the Raiders 24-5 to take a 42-17 lead at halftime.
Dean scored 10 of his 19 points in that second quarter and added six more in the third quarter to go with Holloway’s eight as the Cougars went on a 16-6 run.
The comfortable lead enabled Carlynton coach Dan DeRose to go deep into his bench and allow several junior varsity players to get some varsity experience.
Eduardo Benitez scored 12 points to lead Cornell, which snapped a 10-game losing streak earlier this week. The Class 1A Raiders fell to 2-12 on the season while Carlynton, which plays in Class 3A, improved to 7-6.
Montour 76, Lincoln Park 47
Ama Sow reached the 1,000-point mark for his career on the way to a game-high 31 points, helping the Spartans breeze past the Leopards in a Class 5A Section 4 game at Montour.
Sow, Montour’s standout 6-foot-10 senior, scored his 1,000th career point when he connected on a free throw with 2 minutes, 17 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Sow’s free throw gave Montour a 62-34 lead.
Sow got off to a strong start, scoring 10 points in the first quarter to help the Spartans build a 21-9 lead after eight minutes.
Montour expanded that lead to 43-24 in the second period and outscored Lincoln Park 24-12 in the third quarter.
Sow, who was averaging 22.1 points per game, connected on 11 of 14 free throw attempts for Montour, which improved to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in Section 4 play.
Colton Straight contributed 15 points for the Spartans while Mark Carter added 11.
Mason Rowan scored 15 points to lead Lincoln Park.
Montour coach Bill Minear said the Spartans didn’t make Sow the focal point of their offense in the final two quarters, but he was able to make his presence felt anyway.
“In the second half we ran a lot of sets where he wasn’t the No. 1 option,” Minear said in a TV interview after the game. “And then he became free to get a rebound and an easy layup, and that’s kind of what we did.”
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 56, Neshannock 51
Vann Kavals scored 11 of his 15 points in the third quarter to help the Chargers erase a one-point halftime deficit and they went on to beat the Lancers in a Class 2A Section 4 matchup at Moon Area High School.

OLSH converted 8 of 11 free throw attempts in the final eight minutes to secure the victory.
Tiernan McCullough went 4-for-4 from the line and scored nine of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter for OLSH, which improved to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in section play.
Jake Johnson contributed 16 points in the win and Kavals added 12 rebounds for the Chargers.
Avonworth 64, Bishop Canevin 57
The Crusaders held high-scoring Rowan Carmichael to three points under his season average, but the Antelopes’ senior guard still hit for 29 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, to help lead his team to a non-section victory.
Carmichael, who entered the game leading the WPIAL in scoring at 32.6 points per game, hit for 10 points in the first quarter to help Avonworth get off to a 23-18 lead.
Bishop Canevin, which fell to 6-8 overall, held the 6-foot senior guard to just three points in the second quarter and four in the third, and by that time the Crusaders had erased a 32-25 halftime deficit and led 43-42 heading into the final eight minutes.
But Carmichael, who earlier this season scored 44 of Avonworth’s 57 points in a win over Beaver, hit for 12 points in the final eight minutes to help the Antelopes secure the victory.
Carmichael hit five 3-pointers on the night and Carson Bellinger added 15 points for Avonworth, including seven in the fourth quarter.
