Seedings and pairings for the 2025 WPIAL Boys and Girls Basketball Championships were unveiled Monday, and five West Hills schools learned who their first-round opponents will be.
In the boys tournament, Class 5A Section 4 champion Montour, which went unbeaten in section play at 12-0 and is 20-1 overall, earned the top seed in the class.
On the girls side, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is the highest-seeded local team, as the Chargers are No. 3 in the Class 3A bracket.
OLSH, which went 14-0 to win the Section 1 title and crafted a 19-2 overall record going into Monday night’s non-section game against Moon, will take on No. 14 seed South Allegheny at 7 p.m. Friday at Moon Area.
South Allegheny finished sixth in Section 2 with a 5-10 mark and is 5-17 overall.
Other West Hills teams competing in the boys tournament besides Montour are Moon — the defending Class 5A champion — Carlynton, OLSH and Bishop Canevin. On the girls side, Moon and Bishop Canevin earned tournament berths along with OLSH.
The Montour boys won’t know their first-round opponent until later this week, as they’ll take on the winner of Thursday’s matchup between No. 16 Franklin Regional and No. 17 Indiana. The Spartans will host that contest at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Moon, which finished third in Section 4 at 8-4 and is 17-5 overall, is seeded No. 5. The Tigers will host No. 12 Gateway (12-8, 10-4), which finished third in Section 1, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18.
In Class 3A, No. 4 seed Bishop Canevin, which rolled through Section 2 unbeaten at 10-0 and is 13-8 overall, will host No. 13 Seton LaSalle at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18. Seton LaSalle finished 5-5 and in fourth place in Section 3 and is 9-12 overall.
Carlynton, seeded No. 11, travels to Southmoreland to take on the sixth-seeded Scotties, who won the Section 4 title at 10-0 and are 17-4 overall. That game also will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18.
In Class 2A, No. 6 seed OLSH, which finished second in Section 4 at 12-2, one game behind Neshannock, and is 17-5 overall, hosts No. 11 seed Clairton at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Cornell High School. Clairton finished third in Section 1 at 8-6 and is 8-10 overall.
In the girls tournament, Moon earned the No. 10 seed in the Class 5A bracket and the Tigers will travel to meet No. 7 Indiana at 7 p.m. Friday. Indiana enters play 17-5 overall after going 10-2 in Section 2, good for a second-place finish. Moon finished third in Section 3 at 7-5 and is 12-7 overall.
In Class 3A, Shady Side Academy, unbeaten at 21-0 and the Section 2 champ, is the No. 1 seed, ahead of Greensburg Central Catholic (17-4) and OLSH.
In Class 1A, Bishop Canevin is seeded No. 9 and will play at No. 8 Springdale at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17. The Crusaders, 11-9 overall, went 6-8 in Section 2 and finished fifth.
Springdale is 11-11 overall after finishing 8-6 in Section 1, good for a fourth-place finish.
