The 2024 WPIAL football season will kick off this weekend, and all six West Hills area high schools will be in action.

Three of those teams – Montour, Sto-Rox and Moon – will start their campaigns with home games tonight while Carlynton and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart will take to the road.

Cornell, meanwhile, will open its season Saturday.

Some familiar faces figure to be seen tonight at Sto-Rox Junior/Senior High School Stadium, as the Vikings – who finished 2-7 last year — will host an Alumni Night get-together and meet-and-greet prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff against South Side Beaver.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and gate ticket sales are cash-only at $5. The entry gate for this season is in the parking lot at Dale and Rosamond streets.

Alumni will be seated in the “A” section at the 50-yard line.

Montour will host Central Valley at 7 p.m. at Thomas J. Birko Memorial Stadium and Trinity will take on Moon at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.

Montour, coming off a 10-2 season and a trip to the WPIAL semifinals, edged Central Valley 21-20 last season after stopping the Warriors on a two-point pass attempt.

Moon reached the WPIAL Class 5A semifinals a year ago, finishing 6-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Carlynton, 2-8 last season, will travel to the South Side to take on Carrick at Cupples Stadium in a 7 p.m. matchup.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, 4-6 a year ago, also will travel to take on Rochester in a 7 p.m. matchup.

Saturday’s lone game involving an area school will find Cornell playing Brashear at Cupples Stadium. The Raiders put together a solid 8-3 season last year, including a 5-2 mark in Black Hills Conference play.
