Riley Mauro collected a pair of goals as visiting Carlynton rolled to an 8-0 victory over Bishop Canevin Monday in a WPIAL Class 1A Section 3 girls soccer matchup at Youthtowne.
Mauro had plenty of help in the scoring department as six of her teammates contributed one goal each.
Sophia O’Brien, Mary Crawford, Shania Purdom, Chloe Baum, Bella D’Antonio and Greta Schriver each scored once for Carlynton, which built a 5-0 first-half lead and added three more in the second.
Mauro, O’Brien, Crawford, Purdom and Baum scored their goals in the first half, with Gigi Choate assisting on two of them and D’Antonio adding an assist as well.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 10, South Side 4
Maribel Medwig erupted for four first-half goals as the Chargers cruised to a Class 1A Section 1 victory over the Rams.
The victory enabled OLSH to even its section record at 2-2 and the Chargers improved to 2-3 overall.
Sydney Trippe added two goals for OLSH, which led 8-2 at halftime, while Olivia Taylor, Natalie Turcios, Riley Rhodes and Jaida Wynkoop each contributed one.
South Side opened the scoring less than three minutes into the match before Medwig tied it up after taking a pass from Taylor right off the kickoff.
Medwig scored four of the Chargers’ first five goals, with Turcios netting the other.
Moon Area 3, West Allegheny 0
Anna Palm, Anya Schwartz and Quinn Arnold each contributed one goal to power the Tigers past the host Indians in a Class 3A Section 2 battle.
Moon improved to 4-0-0 in section play and is now 5-1-0 overall.
Junie Shaver and Kendall Dydek each picked up an assist for Moon while Ainslie Romasco recorded the shutout in goal.
Montour 5, Bethel Park 1
Irelynn Hobbs led the attack with four goals and Kaci Mitcheltree chipped in with one as the Spartans whipped the Black Hawks in a Class 3A Section 2 game.
Kira Hobbs assisted on three of the Spartans’ five goals.
BOYS GOLF
Moon Area 198, Blackhawk 208
Ian Bonidie carded a 34 to lead the Tigers to a 10-stroke victory over the Cougars in a Class 3A Section 6 match at Blackhawk Golf Course.
Chris Brown shot 40 for Moon while Cooper Fazio and Eric Hartman both finished with rounds of 41. Patrick Queen rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with a 42.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 214, Fort Cherry 232
Jonah Schollaert shot an even-par round of 36 as the Chargers posted a victory over the Rangers in a Class 2A Section 4 matchup played at Moon Golf Club.
With the win, OLSH improved to 8-2 overall and 8-1 in section play.
Matthew Prince shot a 40 for the Chargers while Ryan DeNinno, Katie Suess and Nolan Meyer each carded rounds of 46. Greg Alrutz’ round of 43 led Fort Cherry.
GIRLS GOLF
Upper St. Clair 188, Moon Area 190
Olivia Zeigler captured medalist honors with a 38, leading the Panthers past the Tigers in a Class 3A Section 2 match played at St. Clair Country Club.
Liv DeGori posted a round of 44 to lead Moon, which lost its second straight match and fell to 8-2 overall and 7-2 in section play.
Also scoring for the Tigers were Aubrey Marasco (45), Angelina Schild (48) and Hope Cordle (53).
GIRLS TENNIS
Butler 5, Moon Area 0
The Tigers’ No. 2 doubles tandem of Kristina Singh and Caroline Hall put up the stiffest fight in their team’s loss to the Golden Tornado.
Singh and Hall fell 6-1, 6-3 to Devan Christotano and Noel Ernst. Moon singles players Hayley Bates, Cailyn Frye and Scarlet Eubanks all came up short as did the top doubles tandem of Vita Hazen and Ella Stephenson.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Chartiers-Houston 3, Bishop Canevin 0
The Buccaneers posted a sweep of the visiting Crusaders. No other information was available.
