Senior Tyanne Tolbert accounted for a pair of touchdowns – one rushing and one on a kick return – and led the defense with seven flag pulls on Senior Night to pace Montour to a 24-0 victory over Steel Valley Tuesday in a WPIAL Section 4 girls flag football game.
Senior Lauren Sheets added a pair of interceptions to spark the Montour defense, which also received a standout performance from freshman Sha’layia Hutchinson, who had three sacks, two flag pulls and a pass breakup.
Ellia Angelo completed 11 of 15 passes for 90 yards and two scores.
Sto-Rox 32, Keystone Oaks 26
The Vikings trailed 19-12 heading into the fourth quarter but rallied to down the Eagles in a Section 4 contest and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Kamiyah Thompson contributed a pick-six for a Sto-Rox score while Nynal Griffin added a touchdown and Rae’jah Gee scored on a two-point conversion. Quarterback Rae Johnston played a solid game on offense and contributed a pair of interceptions on defense.
In a game played Monday night, Sto-Rox edged Ambridge, 22-20. Griffin, Thompson and Viyhshaela Macon each accounted for one touchdown for the Vikings while Daynna Dozier and Gee contributed two-point conversions. Thompson, Johnston and Myla Bradford came through with interceptions for Sto-Rox.
Quaker Valley 18, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 12
The Chargers found themselves in a 6-6 tie at halftime but the Quakers had the edge in the final two quarters and ultimately prevailed in a Section 4 matchup.
Lola Garner threw for two touchdowns, one each to Jordyn Velmire and Ashlyn Johnson, and Julia Davoli collected 50 yards receiving for OLSH.
Johnson and Charlotte Gautner each picked off a pass, Chloe Goodwin and Katie McCullough each had three tackles and Reagan Kavals had two tackles for loss for OLSH.
Seton LaSalle 27, Moon Area 7
Emily Jackson went 13 for 18 through the air but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers fell to the Rebels in a Section 4 contest.
Avery Pacheco ran for Moon’s lone touchdown and Sara Tavares had seven receptions. Gianna Reynolds led the defense with 10 flag pulls.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3, Ambridge 1
Isaac Tarbuk had 13 kills and 10 digs and the Chargers downed the Bridgers, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21 in a Class 2A Section 4 match at the Angela Activities Center.
Brady Rooney added 12 kills while Paddy Altmar had 11 kills and three blocks for OLSH, which needs one more victory to secure a playoff spot.
Aidan Curry contributed 35 assists and Marco Buzzard had nine digs for the Chargers.
BOYS TENNIS
WPIAL Team Championships
Both Carlynton and Montour saw their tournament runs end after one outing at the Class 2A event, which opened play Monday.
Carlynton, the No. 16 seed, fell to top-seeded Blackhawk, 5-0, at Blackhawk while No. 8 seed Montour lost 3-2 to No. 9 seed Greensburg Salem at Chartiers Valley.
For Carlynton, No. 1 singles Max Klein lost 6-0, 6-1, No. 2 singles Leo Shorthouse fell 6-0, 6-2, and No. 3 singles Dom Hixenbaugh lost 6-0, 6-0. The Cougars’ top doubles pair of Xavier O’Leary and Jonathon Engle lost 6-0, 6-1 and No. 2 doubles Austin Gamble and Dimitri Valcheff fell 6-0, 6-1.
Montour’s individual match results were not available.
GIRLS RUGBY
Moon Area 35, State College 0
The Tigers had no difficulty in posting a victory, thanks to a balanced attack that saw seven different players score at least one try. Laura Brosovic had three tries while Ella Arnold, Avery Moore and Jayla Rugani added two each. Contributing one try were Abigail Gorrell, Isabella Cryck and Maya Miller.
Samantha Orland made good on 3 of 3 conversion attempts and Elliana Nurss was 2 of 7.
GIRLS WRESTLING
Moon Area junior Haley Smarsh, the reigning PIAA girls wrestling champion at 130 pounds, was a guest of state Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-44th District) at the state House of Representatives in Harrisburg Monday.
Smarsh, who also won the 2026 WPIAL crown at 130, was introduced by House Speaker Joanna McClinton and was accompanied by her coaches and family.
