High school roundup: Montour’s Hobbs sets single-season mark for goals; Moon, OLSH win

Irelynn Hobbs snapped a scoreless tie with a goal in the second half, and that proved to be enough to pace Montour to a 1-0 victory over visiting Trinity Wednesday in a Class 3A Section 2 girls soccer game at Thomas J. Birko Memorial Stadium.

Hobbs’ goal was her 32nd of the season, breaking the regular-season scoring record for Montour.

The Spartans improved to 11-2 overall and 10-1 in the section.


Moon Area 3, Seton LaSalle 0

Kendall Dydek and Maddie Shaver each scored a goal and assisted on another as the Tigers blanked the Rebels in a nonsection match.

Moon is 14-1-0 overall and 11-0-0 in Class 3A Section 2 play.

Junie Shaver added a goal for the Tigers, who scored all three of their goals in the second half.

Ainslie Romasco earned the shutout in goal for Moon.


Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 5, Riverview 1

First-half goals by Olivia Taylor and Riley Rhodes staked the Chargers to a 2-0 lead at intermission and they went on to down the Raiders in a nonsection match at Riverview.

Camryn Hummel, Eva Fardo and Lizzy Day each scored a goal in the final 40 minutes for OLSH, which improved to 7-6-1 overall. The Chargers are 6-3-1 Class 2A Section 1 play.


Sewickley Academy 3, Carlynton 1

Sophia O’Brien scored on a corner kick for the Cougars, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers posted a victory in the Class 1A Section 3 match at Carlynton.

O’Brien’s goal came in the first half for Carlynton, which trailed 2-1 at halftime. Sewickley Academy tacked on a final goal in the second half.

The loss leaves Carlynton with an overall record of 7-6-1 and 6-4-0 in section play.


Aquinas Academy 3, Bishop Canevin 0

The “other” Crusaders blanked Bishop Canevin in a Class 1A Section 3 match. No other details were available.


GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Bishop Canevin 3, Brentwood 0

The Crusaders swept the Spartans by set scores of 26-24, 25-20, 25-19, in a Class 1A Section 5 match played Tuesday night. No further details were available.
