Owen Amey went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs to spark Moon Area to a 10-4 victory over visiting Bethel Park Tuesday in a Class 5A Section 2 baseball game.
The Tigers used a four-run third inning to wipe out a 2-1 deficit and never trailed again. Two runs scored on an error in that inning while Nick Machusko doubled home a run and Nico Marasco contributed an RBI single.
Bethel Park narrowed the deficit to 5-4 in the fourth inning, but Moon put the game out of reach with a five-run sixth inning.
Will Swisher and Jayden Bittner contributed RBI singles and Amey tripled home two runs.
Savario Vandetti had two hits and scored two runs for Moon.
Bishop Canevin 9, Deer Lakes 5
Jakob Zahler and Jalen Jackson each had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the Crusaders to a come-from-behind victory over the Lancers in a non-section game at Deer Lakes.
Julian Pope went 3 for 4 and scored two runs for Bishop Canevin while Nate Astor had two hits and Brady Wagner drove in two runs.
Bishop Canevin trailed 4-1 going into the top of the fourth inning but took the lead for good with a five-run rally.
A bases-loaded walk resulted in the Crusaders’ first run in that inning and a two-run error tied the score. Zahler then put Bishop Canevin up 6-4 with a two-run single. Jackson’s RBI double made it 7-4 and John Poppert drove in two runs with a base hit.
Montour 5, McKeesport 1
Matteo Weber had a pair of doubles and drove in a run, and Michael Ivanoff pitched five no-hit innings to propel the Spartans to a Class 5A Section 3 win over the Tigers.
Montour scored single runs in the second through fifth innings to build a 4-1 lead.
Dalton Young drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second, Weber double home a run in the third, and a wild pitch in each of the fourth and fifth innings brought home single runs for the Spartans.
Gavin Foley had two of Montour’s five hits.
Ivanoff worked the first five innings and gave up one run and two walks while striking out 12. Zander Stern gave up two hits in two innings of relief and struck out six.
South Side 10, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3
Ryan Shaw had a pair of hits and drove in four runs and the Rams got off to a strong start on the way to a Class 2A Section 3 victory over the Chargers.
South Side scored twice in the first inning and three times in the second to build a 5-0 lead, but OLSH trimmed that lead to 5-3 with three runs in the bottom of the second.
James Hanna singled home a run for the Chargers and another run came home on Christian Bush’s double. The final OLSH run scored on an error.
South Side put the game away with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Bruno Williams and Bush each finished with two hits for OLSH.
Apollo-Ridge 10, Carlynton 3
The Vikings built a 6-0 lead through five innings and went on to down the Cougars in a Class 2A Section 3 game at Carlynton.
Zac Myers collected three hits and scored two runs for Apollo-Ridge while Richard Peach had two hits and drove in a run and Brody Henderson tripled in a pair of runs.
Isaac Anker had three of Carlynton’s eight hits while Tyler Henrich and Logan Orsi each had two. Orsi drove in two runs on a fielder’s choice and a seventh-inning single.
Mohawk 17, Sto-Rox 1
The Warriors erupted for 11 first-inning runs and that was more than enough to whip the Vikings in a Class 3A Section 1 game at Sto-Rox.
Kam O’Lare had three hits and drove in three runs for Mohawk while Vinny Pezzuolo had a hit and drove in four.
SOFTBALL
Fort Cherry 11, Carlynton 10
Julia Sobocinski had three hits and drove in four runs as the Rangers edged the Cougars in the completion of a Class 2A Section 3 game that was suspended last week.
Maddie Groszkiewicz slugged a two-run homer and Lucy Dusheck had two hits and drove in two runs for Fort Cherry.
Lucy Vetter had a triple, double and single for Carlynton while Kaycie Chapman had a triple and a double. Sarah Loney banged out two doubles and Danica DeCecco had a triple for the Cougars.

WPIAL Doubles Tournament
Montour’s duo of Jonah Camardese and Trey Varga were eliminated in the quarterfinals, falling to the No. 2 seed Ravi Stanger and Soham Maiti of Winchester Thurston, 10-3, at Bethel Park High School.
Camardese and Varga, who reached the finals of their section tournament before falling, were seeded No. 7 in the 16-team field.
The Montour tandem opened tournament play by downing Patrick Connors and Sutton Hoehl of Quaker Valley, 10-3, in a first-round match.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Baldwin 3, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 0
The fifth-ranked Highlanders dispatched the Chargers in straight sets, winning 25-17, 25-19, 25-19 at OLSH’s Angela Activities Center.
Mathias Lieb led OLSH with six kills and six digs. Isaac Tarbuk added five kills and five digs and Aiden Curry contributed four kills, 11 assists and two digs for the Chargers, who visit Montour Wednesday.
North Allegheny 3, Moon Area 0
The top-ranked “other” Tigers topped Moon in straight sets, 25-14, 25-11, 25-16, in a Class 3A Section 1 match.
Ayden Anderson-Simmons had his most effective match of the season for Moon with a .385 hitting percentage. Logan Anderson-Stewart also added a team high nine kills. Defensively Moon registered four team blocks.
Montour 3, North Catholic 0
Isaiah Hendrson had 12 kills to help the Spartans sweep the Trojans, 25-13, 27-25, 25-19, in a non-section match played Monday night.
Adrian Sanchez added 10 kills and Braden Cartwright chipped in four. Gaige Schoff had five kills and two aces for Montour.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 34, Aliquippa 0
Lola Garner threw for two touchdowns – one to Jules Goshen and one to Natalie Turcios – to help power the Chargers past the visiting Quips in a Section 4 game.
Turcios also ran for a touchdown while Goshen and Reagan Kavals each registered a one-point conversion and Julia Davoili scored on a two-point conversion.
Defensively, Garner and Goshen each returned an interception for a touchdown while Kavals registered a sack and a tackle for loss. Also finishing with a tackle for loss were Charlotte Gauntner and Chloe Goodwin.
Montour 48, Bishop Canevin 6
Kya Cooley caught five passes and scored the Crusaders’ lone touchdown in a Section 4 loss to the Spartans.
Gianna Mathews had seven catches while on defense, Lizzie Fuchs picked of a pair of passes and Lia Pilarski and Elena Chadish each had an interception.
