Savario Vandetti delivered a two-run single in the first inning and that would be all Moon Area would need in a 7-3 victory over Trinity Tuesday in a Class 5A Section 2 baseball game at Moon.
The first-place Tigers, who clinched the section title, extended their 2-0 lead to 6-0 with a four-run third inning. Two runs scored on an infield error, Taylor Ebner doubled home a run and Thad Longwell drove Ebner home with a base hit.
Nick Machusko added a solo home run in the fourth to widen Moon’s advantage to 7-0.
Trinity scored once in the fifth and twice in the sixth but could get no closer.
The Hillers outhit the Tigers, 9-6, and no Moon hitter finished with more than one hit. But the Tigers made the most of their opportunities, drawing five walks and taking advantage of one key Trinity error.
Chris Sandor pitched six innings for Moon, scattering eight hits and striking out three.

Colby Lane went 3 for 3 and drove in three runs as the Chargers rebounded from an 11-0 loss Monday by downing the Raiders in a Class 2A Section 3 matchup at Youthtowne.
OLSH did all of its damage in the third inning, overcoming a 1-0 deficit. Singles by Bruno Williams, Ryan DeNinno and Dean Douglass loaded the bases for Lane, who then tripled to knock in all three runners.
Lane then scored on James Hanna’s sacrifice fly.
Williams, DeNinno and Douglass all finished with two hits for OLSH, which has locked up a berth in the WPIAL tournament. Williams pitched a complete-game five-hitter, walking two.

Ciabattoni drove in a run with a fielder’s choice in the third inning and added a two-run single in the nine-run fourth inning. Firle contributed a three-run double in that inning.

Shady Side Academy 5, Bishop Canevin 3
Ty McCaskey’s three-run homer in the fifth inning helped the Bulldogs erase a 3-1 deficit and claim a non-section win over the Crusaders.
Bishop Canevin built a lead on a pair of runs that scored on errors in the first inning and an RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Christian Cox.
But McCaskey’s home run proved to be the difference for Shady Side Academy.
Bishop Canevin managed just four hits in the game, two of which belonged to Jakob Zahler. The Crusaders have clinched a berth in the WPIAL tournament.
