Ryan Moessner scored a pair of goals to spark Bentworth to a 3-1 victory over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Thursday night in the WPIAL Class 1A boys soccer championship match at Highmark Stadium.
This marked the second straight year that the Chargers fell to the Bearcats in the WPIAL title game. The 2024 matchup went to penalty kicks, where Bentworth prevailed 5-4.
Bentworth, now 21-0, has now won three straight WPIAL crowns. The loss was the first for OLSH in 19 starts this season.
Moessner put the Bearcats in front less than three minutes into the first half with his 54th goal of the season.
With a little over 15 minutes remaining in the half, OLSH’s Andre Kolocouris scored off a bouncing corner kick that was errantly cleared to the top of the box, tying the score at 1-1.
Then with 8 minutes, 36 seconds left in the first half, Adam Moessner snapped the tie with his 46th goal of the season for Bentworth, and the Bearcats owned a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Ryan Moessner then tacked on one more goal for Bentworth three minutes into the second half to close out the scoring and wrap up the win for the Bearcats.
OLSH’s season will continue as the Chargers move on to the PIAA tournament, where they will face District 6 champion Carroll-McCort Tuesday, Nov. 5, at a time and location to be determined.
Carroll-McCort (9-11) defeated top-seed Westmont Wednesday in Johnstown to win the District 6 title.
Bentworth will take on the District 10 champion, Mercyhurst Prep, Tuesday, Nov. 5, at a time and location to be determined.
Bentworth blazed through its section schedule, winning all eight games and outscoring its opponents by a combined 92-1.
OLSH, meanwhile, blitzed Section 3 with a 10-0 record and allowed only four goals.
OLSH opened WPIAL tournament play by whipping Greensburg Central Catholic 13-1 and followed that with a 4-1 win over Sewickley Academy in the quarterfinals and a 1-0 semifinal win over Winchester Thurston Monday night.

Waynesburg Central 3, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 1
The Warriors prevailed by set scores of 25-20, 25-18, 18-25, 25-16 in the battle for third place in the WPIAL Class 2A tournament, ending the Chargers’ season in the process.
With the win, Mohawk advances to the PIAA tournament, where it will take on Corry – the District 10 winner – Tuesday night. The Warriors improved to 21-1 on the season, with their only loss coming in Tuesday’s semifinal match with Avonworth.
Waynesburg Central had lost only two sets all year before falling 3-2 to the Antelopes.
OLSH finished its season with two straight losses, falling to Hopewell in Tuesday’s semifinals and Thursday to Waynesburg Central, and wound up 15-5.
OLSH dropped the first two sets, with Waynesburg closing out the second set on a 9-2 run. The Chargers then turned the tables by ending the third set on a 9-2 run to win 25-18 and force a fourth set.
That deciding set was close through the early going, with the score tied from 4-4 through 13-13, but Waynesburg Central took control in the latter stages to win going away. Ani Cree led Waynesburg Central with 15 kills, five blocks and more than a dozen digs
